"Pakistan 2002 :Her skin is weathered; there are wrinkles now, but she is as striking as she was 17 years ago. Finding Sharbat Gula and her family was one of the most memorable moments in my life. I remember the noise and confusion in that refugee camp almost two decades ago. I asked permission from the teacher to enter the girls' school tent and photograph a few students. The shyest of them gave me permission to photograph her, and I shot a few frames. When I saw the film, I was surprised by how still and quiet it appeared. The Soviets had been in Afghanistan for five years, and Sharbat's parents had both been killed during air strikes on her village. I am thankful that this woman has her own family and that she has been able to carve out a life for herself. It's fortunate that we found her. The refugee camp that she had lived in is being torn down, and if we had tried this a year from now, it would have been impossible."

"I have been a witness, and these pictures are my testimony. The events I have recorded should not be forgotten and must not be repeated."

Among the most beautiful travel photos I've come across.

Exceptionally beautiful safari photos, shown on photo-eye, Gallery Santa-Fe.

"I see the natural world as reality; the artificial world that humans inhabit is a mental creation and an illusion. In my photographs, I try to convey the beauty and grandeur of that awesome reality. Nature is the ultimate artist."
